Chris Markey

Chris Markey, PT, MOMT (Owner of CPE) graduated from Daemen College with his Bachelors degree in physical therapy in 1989. He later completed a Master of Orthopedic Manual Therapy degree in 1997, and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist in 2001. Chris specializes in outpatient orthopedic manual therapy and exercise, sports rehabilitation, and aquatic therapy related to this. He participates in ice hockey, mountain biking, martial arts and tactical shooting. He enjoys spending his time with his wife Laura, daughter Alyson and son Alex, as well as working with the Arizona Sundogs Hockey Club.

Laura Markey, PT, DPT, FAAOMPT, CSCS (Owner of CPE) specializes in orthopedic manual therapy and exercise prescriptions. She graduated from Daemen College in Amherst New York in 1989. She completed her Masters degree in Orthopedic Manual therapy in 1993, Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy in 2006 and worked hard to achieve Fellow status with the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists. Her challenges and goals include the creation of “facility(s) of choice for orthopedic and sports medicine physical therapy” in the Quad City area. One of her passions is to teach other physical therapists around the country about manual therapy and orthopedic physical therapy. She teaches certification and doctoral programs throughout the United States to other physical therapists, treats patients and manages Center for Physical Excellence. She thrives on seeing others succeed and improve their lives. Laura’s hobbies include running, hiking, camping and furthering her education. Laura and her husband Chris enjoy spending time with each other and their two children Alex and Alyson.

Rick Cimaglia

Rick Cimaglia

Rick Cimaglia, MPT has been with Center for Physical Excellence for over 6 years. He completed an orthopedic manual therapy long term course in the Maitland Approach to Manual Therapy and is also ASTYM Certified. He graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Masters degree in Physical Therapy in 1997 as well as having a Bachelors degree in Exercise Physiology. He is a competitive amateur road cyclist for over 20 years and also loves the outdoors, hiking, backpacking, and mountain biking.

Heidi Edwards

Heidi Edwards

Heidi Edwards, PT, OCS, CSCS graduated with her Master of Physical Therapy degree from Samuel Merritt College in Oakland California in 2004. She has been with Center for Physical Excellence for over three years. During her career with us, she has achieved her Certification in Orthopedic Manual Therapy, First Responder Certification, and Orthopedic Clinical Specialist Certification. Creating agility and sport specific training has been a passion of Heidi’s and she was trained and credentialed in the Competitive Athletic Training Zone (CATZ) for Prescott. She enjoys flying, photography, biking and hiking.

Erin Warne

Erin Warne, DPT has been with Center for Physical Excellence for approximately one year. She graduated from University of Mary in Bismarck, ND in May 2008 with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. She enjoys learning and growing in the knowledge of orthopedics. Her interests and skills include orthopedic manual therapy, exercise dosage, and women’s health. She enjoys hiking, and spending time with her husband and two dogs. She most recently ran her first half marathon in April 2009 and hopes to run another one soon.

Burton Ford

Erin WarneBurton Ford, DPT joined Center for Physical Excellence in December 2009. He graduated in August 2008 from Andrew Taylor Still University in Mesa, AZ with a Doctorate in physical therapy. Originally from Wisconsin, he received his BS in human biology from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. In his free time he enjoys outdoor activities like golf, hiking, biking and running. Burton was an accomplished weightlifter, competing in power lifting, and he would like to get back into this. He thoroughly enjoys working with people one on one to figure out what will best help them achieve their goals. Burton is interested in pursing a manual therapy certification here, as well as a potential residency and fellowship.

Mary Ann Kozel, PT, GCS received her Master of Science in physical therapy from Boston University in 1980. She has a special interest in working with seniors and in 2000 received her board certification in geriatrics from the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). While living in Kalispell, MT, she wrote a column on senior health and fitness for the local newspaper. She has served on the board of directors of the Montana Chapter of the APTA and the Professional Writers of Prescott. At Center for Physical Excellence, Mary Ann will be developing programs to serve seniors with a variety of orthopedic and neurological disorders such as osteoporosis, stroke, arthritis and Parkinson’s disease. An emphasis will be on maximizing function through education, appropriate exercise and injury prevention.

Steve Reid

Steve Reid, PT was raised in the Pacific Northwest and went on to receive a Masters degree in Physical Therapy in 1996 from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, CA after earning an undergraduate degree at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix. His 14 years in Physical Therapy include both acute care and outpatient care experience in a variety of settings from large hospitals to private practice settings. He has a passion for helping others reach their full potential in rehabilitation. Steve is known for his ability to motivate and empower his patients to reach their goals. He loves a hands on approach to patient care with an emphasis on exercise to restore function. He has been able to take many continuing education courses in Physical Therapy for spinal and joint rehabilitation. He has expanded his learning by becoming a licensed Realtor in the state of Arizona in 2005. Steve, his wife and family relocated from Phoenix ten years ago to Prescott and have absolutely loved living in this community and raising their children. Steve is very active with his 3 children by coaching them in YMCA basketball and Prescott Little League in addition to teaching weekly in the children’s department at the Heights Church. He has a love for helping others in the Tri-city area community through a small group that he and his wife lead called the “Give Big”.

Chris Swanner, PTA, ATC-L joined Center for Physical Excellence in June of 2009. He is originally from North Carolina and grew up in Uruguay. He graduated from Chowan College in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts in physical education with an emphasis in Athletic Training. After playing soccer for 2 years in the Premier Development League, he obtained his Athletic Training certification in 2004. He later went on to attend Gateway Community College and received his Physical Therapy Assistant degree in 2008. His interests are in Orthopedics, Functional Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine. Chris is also a team associate with the Justin Sports Medicine Team that covers Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association events around the country treating the rodeo athlete for injuries from minor bumps and bruises to major orthopedic injuries. In his free time he enjoys fishing and working/riding his horses.

Patti Dzenis

Patti Dzenis

Patti Dzenis is from Chicago, IL. She moved to the Quad Cities area after discharge from the United States Navy. While serving for the last 10 years, Patti was a hospital Corpsman in Okinawa, Japan and a Physical Therapy Assistant at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. While in Chicago, she trained with and cared for new recruits and individuals entering special programs such as BUD/S Prep SEAL training and Exploding Ordinance Divers. While serving on active duty and being a full time mother of two, Patti also found time to complete her Physical Therapist Assistant degree in May 2008 and her Bachelor of Science in Sports and Health Science in August 2009. She enjoys working at Center for Physical Excellence, horseback riding, hiking and spending time with her family.

Josh Schmidt

Josh Schmidt

Josh Schmidt, M.Ed. ATC-L AT was born and raised in the Sierra Nevada’s of California. He attended Fresno State where he achieved his Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science with an emphasis in Sports Medicine. After graduating from the home of the Bulldogs, he went on to obtain a Masters degree from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. Upon graduation he and his wonderful wife Terra Schmidt, who is also a Certified Athletic Trainer, moved to the Prescott area in 2004. In addition to working at Prescott High School, Josh also teaches anatomy and physiology at the local community college of Yavapai. Outside of work and teaching, Josh is a member of the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Response Team where he helps to coordinate the Search and Rescue operations for the Sheriff’s Office. He is a member of the regional technical rescue team for Yavapai County as well as a member of the Department of Public Safety helicopter air rescue unit where he helps to coordinate medical care as well as all technical air rescue operation of injured, ill and lost individuals in the back country. Finally, he is a member of the Red Cross where he teaches CPR, First Aid and many other classes as a volunteer.

Trish Fairbanks is Office Manager at the Center for Physical Excellence. She has worked in Medical Administration for many years, with 16 years of Medical Office Management, and three years at the Center. Trish was born in England, and enjoys travelling, hiking, gardening, and spending time with her family.
